How to Get a License

Education is key to you being more competent, confident, and profitable!

We are pleased that you are interested in getting a Kansas real estate license and are here to help.  In order to gain a Kansas real estate license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete Education for Salesperson License (Two 30 hour Courses)
      • Classes held every January - April - August - October in various schedule formats.
      • $190 for each course or take both in the same month and pay only $175
    • Principles of Real Estate Course (30 hours).  Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion (valid for 12 months) and you are now able to take the licensing exam.

    • Kansas Practice Course (30 hours).  Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion (valid for 6 months). The course is required for all Kansas residents and for all nonresidents and may be completed either before or after the licensure exam. Upon completion of the course, the school will issue a certificate of completion which must be filed with the license application.

ALL CLASSES ARE TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR IN-PERSON SOCIALLY DISTANCED CLASSROOM.  MASKS MUST BE WORN!

  • Pass the Licensing Exam ($82). Both the general and state sections must be passed within 12 months of completing the Pre-License Education.
    • Download the PearsonVue Candidate Handbook for information on exam scheduling and procedures.
    • A License Application is provided with the passing exam score. 
  • Submit a completed fingerprint card, background waiver form, and $60 non-refundable background check fee + $15 non-refundable application fee.
  • Fingerprint cards are available from course providers, at KS licensing exam centers, or may be requested from the Kansas Real Estate Commission.
    • Fingerprint cards are provided on the first day of the Principles of Real Estate course. 
    • You may fill in the Commission’s ORI #, KS920120Z, if it is not printed on the card. 
  • Complete Your Salesperson License Application. ($15 non-refundable and prorated fees)
    • Six months of completing the Kansas Practice Course.
    • Six months of the exam pass date. If sections were passed on different dates, the earlier date starts the clock.
      • Must be filed within from whichever occurs earliest.Affiliate with a licensed Kansas Real Estate Broker; the application must be signed by a supervising or branch broker certifying the applicant’s honesty, trustworthiness, and good reputation and acknowledging any pending charge, conviction, diversion, or suspended imposition of the sentence received by the applicant.  View a Roster of RSCK real estate brokerages
        • An original license cannot be issued on inactive status.
